A Day At The Solitude Camp Palampur - The Most Exhilarating Stay Option In Himachal

In this blog post, I cover The Solitude Camp in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh.

Ever thought of spending a weekend in solitude, free from the hustle and bustle of the maddening city crowd? A place where you can reconnect with Mother Nature, but most importantly, yourself?

Last weekend I discovered one such place in the quaint lil town of Palampur, Himachal Pradesh. True to its name, The Solitude Camp is a one of its kind camping destination in the region, nestled in the foothills of the majestic Dhauladhar Mountains, offering a unique and peaceful camping experience and scenic views unlike any other. If you're looking for a place to escape from any type of technology and other modern interferences, The Solitude Camp is probably your best bet!

The Solitude Camp

The brainchild of two young entrepreneurs from Himachal Pradesh, Gagan Sharma and Vijay Naudiyal, The Solitude Camp offers four types of camping options on its site, each with its own set of unique amenities and advantages.

Kashmir Hut

The Kashmir Hut is perfect for small families like mine. By far the most luxurious hut at The Solitude Camp, the Kashmir Hut is equipped with one queen size bed and one single bed with mattresses, quilts, pillows, towels, and soaps. No wonder then, I chose this hut as my abode for one night!

Other amenities include an attached washroom with geyser and a beautiful patio umbrella with chairs. What they don't offer, however, is bathroom slippers, hair dryer, and toiletries like comb, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, etc.

A special variety of wood has been used to construct this hut; surprisingly the wood is not even painted, yet it is so shiny and sturdy.

The cost of the Kashmir Hut starts from INR 5500 per person, which includes breakfast (veg/non-veg) and dinner (veg).

Bell Tents

As the name suggests, the Bell Tents at The Solitude Camp derive its name from the shape of a bell. Ideal for small groups of 5 to 6 people, these tents are equipped with mattresses, quilts, and pillows.

The cost of Bell Tents starts at INR 2500 per person, which includes breakfast (veg/non-veg) and dinner (veg). Further discount can be offered on these tents if you're doing a bulk booking for a group of 50 people (minimum).

The only drawback in these tents is that you'll have to use the common washrooms (western style with attached geysers, separate for both men and women).

Bell Tents are perfect for organizations/schools coming for special events and celebrations such as corporate retreats/school picnics.

Swiss Cottage Tents

The Swiss Cottage Tents at The Solitude Camp comprises a master bedroom, attached bathroom, and patio. Long-lasting, colorful, waterproof, and defect-free, these tents are ideal for those who prefer something aesthetical.

The cost of Swiss Cottage Tents starts from INR 3500 per person, which includes breakfast (veg/non-veg) and dinner (veg).

Bamboo House

The Bamboo House at The Solitude Camp is bigger than the Swiss Cottage Tents and is equipped with a master bedroom, attached bathroom, and patio.

The cost of Bamboo House starts from INR 4500 per person, which includes breakfast (veg/non-veg) and dinner (veg).

It was heartening to see that all the tents at The Solitude Camp have electricity and water backup.

The Solitude Camp

During my one-night stay at The Solitude Camp, I had the pleasure of meeting an ex-Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, who briefed me about the two-day hiking trails.
  • Solitude Viewpoint - 40 to 45 mins hike
  • Palampur Viewpoint - 1.5 hours hike
The day hiking is priced at a nominal fee of INR 500 per person, which includes refreshments like a veg sandwich, juice, water bottle, and chocolate. How cool is that!

Saanvi at The Solitude Camp

Just a few meters away from the camp is the surreal natural water body originating from the glaciers of Dhauladhar mountain range. You can't help but fall in love with the truly breathtaking pristine clear water!

Few activities that are lined up at The Solitude Camp include Book Reading by renowned American authors, river crossing, abseiling, and mountain climbing.

Spotted Near The Solitude Camp

Another highlight at The Solitude Camp is the sumptuous food, especially the breakfast spread which is quite elaborate.

Few things to keep in mind though.
  • The standard check-in time and standard check-out time at The Solitude Camp are 3 P. M. and 12 noon, respectively.
  • Early check-in or late check-out is strictly subject to availability and may be chargeable by the property.
  • Unmarried/unrelated couples are not allowed to check in.
If you choose to stay at The Solitude Camp, your pickup and drop-off can be arranged by the owners.

So what are you waiting for? This summer, come and visit the most exhilarating stay option in Himachal. The clean air of the mountains, trees, and water beckons you!

    1. Since summers are at its peak right now, you can plan a short stay at the campsite. Once the monsoon kicks in, it'll be difficult to plan anything until the water recedes completely.
