Have You Been to ZiuBā - The Modern Asian Cocktail Bar in Gurugram?

In this blog post, I cover ZiuBā, a modern Asian cocktail bar in Gurugram.

Last week I was invited to review ZiuBā, a new F&B property in Gurugram. Technically, the property isn't exactly 'new' per se since a soft launch had already taken place in January 2020. Due to Covid, the restaurant had to stall operations almost immediately and reopen this year.

I visited the property on a Friday afternoon and had the privilege of meeting head chef Gurmehar Sethi for a short while. He also happens to be one of the owners. Gurmehar is no stranger to the world of F&B, having tasted success with his earlier ventures in Delhi - Ziu and Klap. He is also the name behind ZiuKo Asian Cafe in Abu Dhabi and a cloud kitchen in Dubai. He came across as a passionate young chefpreneur who wants to turn ZiuBā into a destination.

ZiuBā - Alfresco Area

The brainchild of three promising restaurateurs, Gurmehar Sethi, Mudit Tandon, and Kunal Gupta, Ziu Bā impresses you from the word go with its chic yet cozy décor.

The restaurant can easily accommodate over 160 people at any given point in time, including the beautiful alfresco area, which is ZiuBā's highlight.

For the uninitiated, Ziu and Bā are Japanese for 'cultivated' and 'bar' respectively. Expect an exquisite combination of authentic Asian cuisine with Tapas and a tantalizing bar when you visit this restaurant.

The restaurant follows all preventive measures listed by the government, including mandatory masks and gloves, thermal screening, and sanitization at regular intervals.

The restaurant offers modern Asian cuisine with tapas-sized portions. Try the Prawn Tempura Sushi, Garlic Chicken & Chili Oil Dimsum, Krunchy Kale & Water Chestnut Dimsum, Golden Crispy Cups, or Smoked Prawns.

Smoked Prawns

My favorite was the Green Thai Curry served with steamed rice in a beautiful Asian Curry Tiffin. If you have a sweet tooth, go for the Coconut & Jaggery Ice Cream.

I expected some high energy and action at the bar, but the drinks were a huge letdown. Every mixologist needs a classic whiskey sour recipe in their repertoire. And since it was the first drink on my table, I was hoping to be wowed. While the Whiskey Sour was not necessarily bad, it wasn't what I would pay for typically! Their Vodka base signature cocktail Rad Mataz put me off completely. A bit of training for bartenders might help!

The restaurant service staff is attentive and knowledgeable and goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable.

So there, the big question, will I be revisiting ZiuBā? You bet! While everything may not be perfect, I'll come here to experience the play of flavors.
